Cephalon focuses its R&D efforts on four main therapeutic areas:

- Central nervous system
- Pain
- Oncology
- Inflammatory diseases.

Cephalon researchers use their technical expertise in medicinal chemistry, molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, molecular and behavioural pharmacology and tumour cell biology to develop new medicines and expand indications for existing medications in an effort to bring new therapies to a greater number of patients in need.
